Determination

The trait that I possess most is determination. I think this is the best trait that I would need to be able to fulfill my destiny. The reason why I think determination is the trait I possess is because at times where I am really feeling down or I have to finish another lap around the lower field, I would not look down, I would not lie down, and I would try my hardest to never give up. Pushing myself across my limits, passing my normal boundaries, and fighting to achieve my goal. This is important for anyone who wants to achieve their goal or destiny. If no one has determination then no one will succeed accomplishing their goal because no one will try hard and a goal is aiming for the best you can offer. If you can not offer the best then you will not be the best resulting in losing what you dreamed of achieving. All in all my trait that I possess most is determination, it will help me push my limits and reach far ahead for my goal.

Fate is a Lie

“When I have been truly searching for my treasure, everyday has been luminous, because I’ve known that every hour was a part of the dream that I would find it. When I have been truly searching for my treasure, I’ve discovered things along the way that I never would have seen had I not had the courage to try things that seemed impossible for a shepherd to achieve.” (Coelho 125). In the Alchemist Santiago says that everyday while searching for his treasure he has transformed from an ordinary shepherd into a strong young man. His journey begins when dreaming of great treasure near the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Santiago is willing to pursue on his adventure to find the hidden treasure. Traveling places where he has never been before. Santiago finds helpful allies to encourage him throughout his journey to understand himself. Santiago works hard to achieve his destiny by being confident, gaining wisdom and being courageous.

On his journey, Santiago is able to pass all the obstacles he's being tested with confidence. One of the reasons why Santiago is confident was because he was willing to travel as his career. His father told him only shepherds can travel. Santiago then said “Well then I'll be a shepherd!” This conversation meant that Santiago is a very confident person, because he is willing to do what he wants to achieve whatever he wishes to do. Santiago said he wants to become a shepherd to travel, and once he travels he will begin his first step to find treasure. Another time when Santiago is confident is when he confronts the elder chiefs and alerting them about the omens he has seen. Santiago tells them that he has seen warriors coming to the oasis. All the elder chiefs know that no weapon can be wielded in the oasis, but Santiago knows that the rule will be broken and the warriors will come. In the end the chief elders tell Santiago that if they see no one heading toward the oasis searching for trouble, they will kill Santiago. Santiago is positive that they the warning come and when they do Santiago receives the respect by the elders. Finally, the last reason why Santiago is confident is because he is able to trust his heart and become the wind. Santiago works hard for three days to become the wind. On the last day he trusts his heart and becomes wind. He is confident that his heart will guide him but at last he succeeds. In conclusion Santiago is very confident to achieve his destiny, but with confidence he also gains knowledge during his journey.

During Santiago's journey, he gains knowledge and wisdom in variety of ways. One way he access wisdom is by learning to listen to his heart. This ability helps him achieve his destiny because later when he has to change and become wind listening to his heart helps him pass this obstacle. Another reason why Santiago is a wise person was because he learns the importance of life. Such as when Santiago is being held captive by the Chief and has no way out besides giving his money to save him three days to live. “Your money saved us for three days, its not money saves a persons life” The alchemist tells him about this so that he can learn that his life is always important. If Santiago died on that day when the chief wanted to know if Santiago was an alchemist then all he has done will be wasted. If he uses all his savings he can still live for 3 days which means he can work hard to understand the mechanics on how to change and become wind. After Santiago surpasses becoming wind he meets some attackers. Santiago gives up and tells them that hes searching for treasure because life matters more than mere money. Finally the last reason is that he learns about the principle of flavorability. Melchizedek told Santiago the Principle of Flavorability will make any beginner the help he needs to realize a greater goal. This encourages Santiago to pursue his destiny. Gaining knowledge is crucial, for Santiago's journey but furthermore he needs strength to overcome the challenges.

Finally, Santiago is courageous an important role to achieve his destiny. Firstly, he is courageous because he faced the Alchemist and didn't show any fear to him. This was a test the Alchemist checks to see if his new apprentice is strong or not. Another reason he is brave was because he faces the elder chiefs and talks about the attack in the oasis. Even though he doesn't know if his prognostications are right or not he's brave enough to face them. Finally, the last reason is when he is digging for the treasure and some attackers threatened him. He is brave enough to tell them that “I'm digging for treasure” This shows that he is not feeling afraid because he has faced countless obstacles and he won't let his fear get the most of him. All in all, courage helps Santiago achieve his destiny.

Never losing hope, never backing down. Santiago manages to travel from southern Spain through Africa reaching to the Pyramids of Egypt, without fear or worries, at last underneath a sycamore tree in Andalusia, Spain, Santiago finally fulfills his destiny and finds his treasure. The young boy named Santiago was able to achieve his by achieving hard obstacles during his journey. He was always confident in actions and choices. He gained knowledge and wisdom from his mentor and friends. Also he was strong never giving up on what he believes in. Santiago was able to know himself better after his travels. At the end Santiago transforms from a young shepherd boy into a confident, wise, and courageous person. Santiago listened to what Melchizedek has taught him, Fate is the worlds greatest lie , anyone can change their destiny if you can believe in yourself.
